FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Why do people from different countries trust Memorial Hospitals in Turkey?

Memorial Clinics in TurkeyMedical tourists from different countries choose Memorial Hospitals for the following reasons:

  • a wide range of services, including advanced areas such as neuroradiology, bone marrow transplantation, cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, and traumatology, as well as specialized cancer centers;
  • medical centers comply with the JCI international standard of quality and safety of treatment, which includes more than 150 indicators;
  • they have high success rates of operations and treatment. 99% of positive results after interventions on the heart and blood vessels, 93% of successful liver transplants, and 65% of successful pregnancies after artificial insemination;
  • doctors regularly undergo training in the best medical institutions in America and Europe;
  • Turkish specialists successfully perform corneal transplantation without the need for sutures;
  • Memorial clinics are located in the resort regions of Turkey and have a convenient location.
What procedures are the most popular among the patients of Memorial Sisli Hospital?

Memorial Sisli Clinic: liver transplantationMemorial Sisli Hospital is one of 14 medical centers that provide a wide range of services. It accepts patients from 167 countries of the world and performs more than 76,000 operations per year. Memorial is the first Turkish hospital, which received the JCI international quality accreditation.

Sisli Memorial offers a modern solution to medical problems that meet the needs of patients. Some of the most requested procedures include:

  • Kidney, liver, and bone marrow transplantation. The hospital is one of the leaders in terms of the number of bone marrow transplantations in Europe;
  • Cardiovascular surgery. Operations such as coronary artery bypass grafting, prosthetic heart valves, aortic surgery, implantation of an artificial pacemaker, and others are performed;
  • Memorial Hospital has its own oncology center, where individual approaches to the treatment of each patient are applied, taking into account the characteristics of the disease;
  • Orthopedics and traumatology. The hospital performs joint replacement operations (hip, knee, shoulder), arthroscopy (knee, shoulder, elbow joints), correction of bone deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis), and treatment of sports injuries;
  • Reproductive Medicine. Doctors use various assistive technology methods such as IVF (in vitro fertilization), ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), and PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis).
How does the ICSI method in IVF work for successful fertilization at Memorial Sisli Hospital?

Sisli Memorial: IVFICSI IVF is an assisted reproduction method that is used for male fertility problems or other cases where the classic IVF method is ineffective. ICSI is one of the most successful methods of assisted reproduction.

The ICSI procedure is carried out as follows:

  1. Preparation of eggs. The patient undergoes ovarian stimulation with hormone therapy to obtain multiple mature eggs. The eggs are then removed from the ovaries by puncture.
  2. Sperm collection from a man. This can be done naturally or microsurgically.
  3. Fertilization of eggs by ICSI. The best spermatozoa are selected in the laboratory under a microscope. The sperm is then injected into the egg using a microscopic needle.
  4. Cultivation of embryos. Fertilized eggs are placed in a special incubator with optimal conditions for temperature, humidity, and gas composition. The embryologist controls the quality and speed of embryo development for several days (usually 3-5 days). Cultivation of embryos provides optimal conditions for their development to the stage when they are ready for transfer to the uterus of a woman.
  5. Transfer of embryos into the uterus of a woman. This happens with the help of a thin catheter, which delivers one or more embryos (usually no more than two) through the cervix into the uterine cavity. The procedure does not require anesthesia and takes a few minutes. The remaining quality embryos can be frozen for future attempts.
  6. Maintenance of pregnancy. After the embryo transfer, the woman is prescribed hormonal support (progesterone), which promotes the implantation of the embryo in the uterus and prevents miscarriage. 10-14 days after the transfer, a pregnancy test is done (blood test for HCG).

ICSI is an effective method for overcoming fertility problems such as lack of spermatozoa or lack of sperm motility.

What modern methods of diagnosing patients with oncology are used at Sisli Memorial?

Sisli Memorial: CTModern diagnostic methods to detect and evaluate oncological diseases are used in Memorial Hospital. The most relevant include:

  1. Computed tomography. Scanning is used to obtain detailed images of internal organs and tissues in order to detect tumors and evaluate their size, distribution, and characteristics.
  2. Magnetic resonance imaging. It allows to get detailed 3D images of organs and tissues using magnetic fields and radio waves.
  3. Positron emission tomography. This is a modern diagnostic method that combines two technologies: PET and CT. It has high sensitivity and specificity, making it a valuable tool for diagnosing and staging various types of cancer. PET-CT allows to more accurately determine the radiological characteristics of the tumor, which helps to create an effective treatment regimen.
  4. Biopsy. During this procedure, tissue samples for further cytological and histological examination under a microscope or using other laboratory methods are taken.
  5. Genetic testing. It is performed to detect a hereditary predisposition to cancer or to identify mutations associated with certain types of cancer. This helps in the individualization of treatment and the development of personalized approaches using targeted and immune therapies.
  6. A blood test for tumor markers is a diagnostic method that measures the level of specific proteins or genes in the blood that are associated with certain types of cancer. A blood test for tumor markers can help detect cancer at an early stage or evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.

  • laser femtosecond cataract surgery is a method, in which all stages of the operation are performed using a laser.

After the lens is removed, an artificial intraocular lens is implanted into the eye, which replaces the function of the natural lens.

The incision in the cornea is usually made in such a way that it does not require sutures to close the wound at the end of the operation. This promotes faster healing and reduces the risk of complications.
