Laser vision correction
My experience with Dr. Adiel Barak left me with excellent impressions. Although my first visit had to be rescheduled due to his absence, he was understanding when he learned that I was a teacher and on vacation and found a convenient time for me. The doctor was very attentive and took my lifestyle into account in his recommendations. The counseling sessions were done without rush. Highly recommended.

LASIK
The doctor performed a successful treatment and overall I had positive impressions. However, he was a little abrupt, perhaps just a bad start to the morning.

Adiel Barak’s research encompasses both fundamental and clinical aspects of ophthalmology, from innovative surgical techniques to the study of disease pathogenesis, effects on vision and various methods of correction.

The main areas of research are:

1. Diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases:

Barak is actively engaged in the study of surgical techniques for various retinal pathologies including retinal detachment, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes. His research includes comparative outcome analyses of different surgical techniques (e.g., vitrectomy, combined surgeries with scleral seal) to improve treatment outcomes and minimize complications.

2. Angiogenesis and its modulation in ocular diseases:

Considerable attention has been paid to angiogenesis, especially in diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Dr. Barak is studying the use of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors and their effect on blood flow and retinal thickness. For example, the BERVOLT study details the long-term effects of anti-VEGF therapy for macular edema.

3. Therapy for macular degeneration and other age-related pathologies:

Dr. Barak is actively researching various approaches to the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including the use of epimacular brachytherapy and combination techniques using the latest implants and drugs. These works aim to improve the efficacy of treatments for elderly patients.

4. Cell Technology and Regenerative Therapies:

Barak is also interested in the potential use of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells to regenerate retinal pigment epithelial cells. This research holds promise for the development of therapies aimed at slowing degenerative processes and repairing damaged retinas.

5. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT):

Barak’s research actively utilizes advanced OCT techniques to diagnose and monitor various retinal and lens pathologies, including the study of subretinal fluid optical density, neoplasms, and macular structure. The use of OCT allows to assess changes in retinal layers more accurately and to predict the outcomes of surgical interventions.

6. The study of vascular diseases of the eye and their relationship to systemic pathologies:

Barak also investigates blood flow in ocular vessels in various conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Special attention is paid to the interaction between blood flow in the retina and the overall cardiovascular system, which is particularly relevant for patients with slow coronary blood flow.

7. Epidemiologic and sociodemographic aspects of ophthalmology:

A number of papers have studied the relationship between myopia and cognitive function, the prevalence of amblyopia and its impact on adolescents, and the interaction of different educational systems with the development of myopia in young people.
