The solution is given, for example, into the pleural cavity, the bladder or the cerebrospinal fluid. This way the drug acts more strongly on the tumor and affects the rest of the body less.

In HIPEC, a heated chemotherapy solution is delivered into the abdominal cavity during surgery. In chemoembolization, the drug is injected into the blood vessel that feeds the tumor.

Intensive regimens are used for some blood cancers and other diseases. Afterwards, blood cell production is restored with a bone marrow transplant.

Diagnostics before chemotherapy
Before drawing up a treatment plan, doctors review the tests you have already had and decide whether additional ones are needed. Some records can be assessed before you travel.

Which tests may be needed
To choose a regimen, the oncologist needs a confirmed diagnosis: biopsy and histology results and, where possible, molecular genetic testing of the tumor. The extent of the disease is assessed with CT, MRI or PET-CT.
Before a course, doctors check blood tests, liver and kidney function and, for some drugs, heart function. Not everyone needs the full list: doctors take into account the results you already have.

Why information about previous treatment matters
If you have already had chemotherapy, the oncologist needs the names of the drugs, the number of cycles and the result. This helps decide whether to continue the regimen or choose another one, and to take side effects into account.

Types of chemotherapy for oncology
A chemotherapist, a doctor who prescribes chemotherapy, chooses the type of treatment based on the following parameters:
Type of cancer, its molecular genetic characteristics (different types of cancer respond differently to the effects of certain drugs)
Stages of the disease
Based on the types and results of treatment that the patient has previously received
The presence or absence of concomitant pathologies (renal, cardiovascular, diabetes, etc.)
After analyzing all these factors, the doctor prescribes one of the types of chemotherapy:
System
It has an effect on the entire body: a medicine introduced into the bloodstream enters all systems and organs of the body. The drugs are administered intravenously, orally, through a needle or implanted port systems. The latter option is preferable if the patient faces a long course of chemotherapy.
Target chemotherapy
A new type of drug that effectively destroys a certain type of cancer cell. The advantages of this type of treatment are that it has less negative impact on healthy cells.
Local chemotherapy
It is used to minimize side effects and maximize impact on the cancer site. Thus, the drug solution can be injected into the pleural area, ventricles of the brain, spinal cord, bladder, or rubbed into the skin. Progressive types of chemotherapy are the HIPEC method (a hot solution of a chemotherapy drug is injected into the abdominal cavity, if it is extensively affected by the cancer process), chemoembolization (injection of chemotherapy drugs into a vessel supplying the tumor with blood).
Patients often talk about “yellow,” “blue,” and “white” chemotherapy, based on the color of the drug. This classification is conditional.
Duration of chemotherapy
The duration of the course is selected individually, depending on the patient’s performance. The course can last a month or six months, in some cases (for example, when using the HIPEC method) a one-time administration of chemotherapy is carried out.
Side effects from chemotherapy
Unfortunately, during the treatment process, not only cancerous cells, but also healthy cells of the body are affected. This is what can cause side effects:
The appearance of nausea, vomiting, pain
Lack of appetite, taste disturbances
The appearance of digestive disorders
Partial or complete hair loss
Changing the nail structure
Weakness, increased fatigue
Immunocompromise, increased risk of infections
Changing the blood formula.
That is why during and after a course of chemotherapy the patient must be under the supervision of doctors and take supporting medications.
In some cases, rehabilitation is indicated after a course of chemotherapy.

Can I get a treatment regimen and cost before I travel?
Yes. Our doctor-coordinator will review your medical records, help you choose an oncologist and arrange for your case to be reviewed. Based on histology and test results, the clinic will prepare a preliminary program and cost estimate. The final regimen is confirmed after an examination at the clinic.
Will chemotherapy help in my case?
Chemotherapy is one of the main treatments for many types of cancer, but its results depend on the tumor type, the stage and how the body responds to the drugs. Only an oncologist can assess how suitable this method is for you after reviewing your records.
How long does a course of chemotherapy in Turkey take?
According to the clinic’s program, the trip takes from 20 days, including about 7 days in hospital. After discharge, follow-up check-ups are carried out, and around day 20 the next course is planned according to the protocol. The total length of treatment ranges from one month to six months and depends on the prescribed regimen.
Can I go home between courses?
This is often possible, as treatment is given in cycles with breaks. Whether you can travel home between courses and where to have tests during the break is decided by your oncologist.
What side effects can occur and how are they managed?
Nausea, weakness, loss of appetite, hair loss, changes in blood counts and a higher risk of infection may occur. During the course, the patient is monitored by doctors and receives supportive medication, and after the course rehabilitation is provided if needed.
Which documents are needed to review my case?
Prepare the diagnosis report, biopsy and histology results, CT, MRI or PET-CT with the report, recent blood tests and discharge summaries on previous treatment. If some records are missing, the coordinator will tell you which tests are still needed.
Do my medical records need to be translated?
