Radiation treatment for stage 3 throat cancer at the Assuta Medical Center helped avoid extensive surgery. The tumor responded well to IMRT radiation.

Diagnosis: Treatment of throat cancer

When I was diagnosed with throat cancer, I thought my life was coming to an end. I felt helpless and did not know what to do. After a brief search for information on the Internet, I decided to go to the Ikhilov Clinic in Israel. The organization was handled by representatives of a medical tourism company who contacted me instantly after filling out a questionnaire on the website. They took care of all aspects of the flight, diagnostics and surgery. The price/result ratio was excellent! The surgery was performed promptly, followed by a course of radiotherapy, which helped to destroy the remaining cancer cells. Now I do not want to go to our hospitals under any circumstances. I saw real medicine and real doctors with my own eyes! Unfortunately, I had to do it abroad, not in my homeland.

I was treated for throat cancer at the Assuta Clinic. The level of equipment and professionalism of the doctors is top-notch. They clearly explained the need for surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy and warned me about possible side effects. Despite the risks, I tolerated everything quite well. However, I have to re-learn how to talk. It is difficult, but I am alive. I am grateful to the doctors for their professionalism and care.

Thanks to Sheba Clinic I got out of a deep psychological hole. In the domestic clinic they gave up on me, but in Sheba they explained to me that it is difficult to get rid of laryngeal cancer at stage 3, but the chances of success are quite high. A long and difficult treatment began. My larynx was saved and I underwent two courses of chemotherapy. Now I am finally healthy, and I look forward to the future with optimism.

Diagnosis: Treatment of throat cancer

Cancer is a huge ordeal for any person. Fortunately, I was lucky to find an excellent clinic with outstanding doctors. This is Ichilov in Israel. With our “medical institutions” can not even compare. In Ikhilov everything is at the highest level, attention is paid to every detail. The operation was not delayed, as well as with subsequent chemotherapy to eliminate metastases. The doctors gave me back my health and confidence. I realize that recurrence is possible, but there is no fear, because now I know where to turn.

Thanks to minimally invasive surgical techniques used in Israel, my larynx was saved. In our hospitals, they only sent me to have my larynx removed with loss of voice…. I am grateful to Israeli doctors for their professionalism. I wish such technologies were available not only abroad, but also in our country.

How can Israeli medicine help in the treatment of throat cancer?

Throat cancer treatment in Israel allows doctors to remove the malignant tumor at all stages of the disease. At the same time, the early and middle stages of laryngeal cancer treatment in Israel preserve patients’ voice. After surgery, voice formation is restored and a good quality of life is ensured at later stages.

What is throat cancer?

Throat cancer is commonly referred to as a malignant tumor of the pharynx and larynx. These anatomical structures are located in the neck region and provide vital functions such as breathing, swallowing, vocalization, and local immunity.

The neoplasm can occur in the oropharynx (tonsils, root of the tongue, palatine uvula), on the walls of the nasopharynx and larynx. In the larynx, which connects the pharynx and trachea, malignant tumors of the epiglottis, vocal cords, and sublaryngeal region can develop.

Laryngeal cancer treatment in Israel in 95% of patients is therapy for squamous cell carcinoma, which occurs in the cells of the mucosa.

Why choose Israel for thorax cancer treatment?

Foreign patients come for pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer treatment in Israel, considering the following advantages:

  • treatment of cancer of the pharynx and larynx in Israeloncologists use innovative radiotherapy and surgery at all stages of the disease;
  • personalized treatment protocol, including chemotherapy, targeted and immunotherapy, gives a chance for cure at advanced stages;

How is throat cancer diagnosed in Israeli clinics?

According to the latest international guidelines, the diagnosis of malignant tumors of the pharynx and larynx includes:

  • Diagnosis of throat cancer in Israeli clinicsdirect fibro-laryngoscopy – examination of the pharynx and larynx using a flexible endoscopic instrument with optical and illumination systems;
  • innovative endoscopic examinations of the throat – contact and NBI-endoscopy, laryngoscopy with SPIES light filters and fluorescent technology;
  • biopsy – taking a tissue sample of a suspicious mass during laryngoscopy;
  • microscopic and immunohistochemical examination of cells from the biopsy to confirm the diagnosis;
  • determination of HPV status (presence of human papillomavirus) in the tumor cells for prognosis;
  • ultrasound-guided puncture biopsy of an enlarged cervical lymph node;
  • CT scan with contrast or MRI of the neck to accurately determine tumor size and identify enlarged lymph nodes;
  • PET (positron emission tomography) or PET-CT of the neck and chest to detect all metastases;
  • esophagoscopy – an examination of the esophagus with an endoscope to check swallowing function and detect metastases;
  • blood tests for SCCA and microRNA markers.

This examination allows doctors to accurately determine the type of cancer cells, the tumor’s molecular characteristics, and the disease’s stage. Is it possible to cure throat cancer in Israel?

Treatment of pharyngeal or laryngeal cancer in Israel provides a complete cure for this disease at stages I-II with the help of one of the high-tech therapies.

Transoral video-endoscopic laser microsurgery (TOVS) or robotic surgery (TORS) with the Da Vinci machine allows the otolaryngologist to remove the neoplasm in a jewel-like manner.

Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT / RTMI), the innovative AlphaDaRT brachytherapy or CyberKnife removes the tumor without affecting healthy tissue.

Some stage II patients receive radiation after surgery. All these techniques allow patients to retain normal speech.

What is the treatment for pharynx and larynx cancer at III-IV stages?

treatment in Israel for pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer stages III-IVTreatment of patients with a malignant tumor of the throat at stage III, when the lymph nodes are already affected – is combined. The therapy protocol provides radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery in different sequences.

The volume of surgery depends on the size of the tumor, its location, and the presence of affected lymph nodes. Sometimes, patients are given only a few chemotherapy and radiation treatment courses. Doctors approach each case individually and, if possible, try to save patients’ larynx and voice.

Throat cancer treatment in Israel at stage IV includes a combination of all major therapies, as well as targeted and immunotherapy drugs. Patients at a late stage usually cannot undergo organ-preserving surgery. The surgeon resects a large volume of tissue, including performing a laryngectomy – removal of the larynx with the vocal cords. He also performs throat reconstruction to preserve swallowing and breathing function and performs vocal rehabilitation. To do this, he brings the upper trachea to the front surface of the neck in the form of a tracheostomy – an opening with a cannula. The qualifications of Israeli surgeons make it possible for some patients to have a one-stage laryngeal prosthesis.

Laryngeal cancer treatment in Israel: voice recovery after laryngectomy

After surgery in Israeli clinics, patients undergo rehabilitation to restore their voice and preserve their quality of life. The following types of rehabilitation are performed after laryngectomy:

  • tracheoesophageal bypass with implantation of a voice prosthesis;
  • use of the latest generation of voice-forming devices;
  • use of esophageal voice.

Experienced speech therapists work with patients to teach them the latter two voice-forming techniques. Patients treated for laryngeal cancer in Israel with laryngectomy return home with restored speech function.
