Removal of a neoplasm is the best way to deal with benign and malignant tumors. Whenever possible, neurosurgeons choose minimally invasive surgery options.
With some tumors (for example, pituitary adenoma), removal through the nasal cavity is possible, without making holes in the skull. This method is the most gentle for the patient: after the operation, there are no side effects that are possible with craniotomy.
When performing open brain surgery, neurosurgeons increasingly use an innovative technique, in which the patient is conscious. This is necessary so that the doctor can track the results of his intervention and make sure that important brain centers (speech, movement, etc) are not damaged during the removal of the tumor.
For more gentle removal of the tumor and reduction of blood loss, neurosurgeons use an ultrasonic aspirator, electric tweezers Bipolar Forceps.
It is possible to use the Da Vinci robotic surgical unit: it is able to operate with an accuracy that is not available to a human surgeon. In leading clinics (for example, the Turkish Acibadem clinic), there is a laboratory right in the operating room that immediately determines the histology of the tumor and makes a preliminary diagnosis.
There is also an MRI unit in the operating room, thanks to which neurosurgeons monitor whether the tumor is completely removed during the operation.
They can be used both in combination with surgery and independently, if for some reason the operation is contraindicated.
Effective for killing small tumors. A beam of high-energy rays affects tumor cells from different angles. The radiation level of the beam is so high that it is able to destroy the tumor in one or two sessions. The accuracy of tissue damage is 1 mm.
Innovative equipment allows for reducing the number of sessions and the duration of the course without losing the effectiveness of treatment. Thus, the patient receives a smaller dose of radiation.
Some types of tumors (for example, medulloblastoma, lymphoma) respond well to chemotherapy drugs, in other cases this method is combined with surgery.
The price largely depends on the type of tumor, stage, and chosen treatment tactics. However, it should be borne in mind that different countries have different pricing policies. Thus, an operation to remove brain cancer in Germany will cost from $35,000, in Israel from $30,000, in Turkey – from $10,000. The exact amount for treatment becomes clear after the patient is diagnosed, and doctors can see the full picture of the disease. But already at the first stage of communication with the coordinating doctor of Experts Medical, the patient will find out the approximate cost.
