Innovative treatment for valvular heart disease at DHZC
Every year, more than 600 non-surgical procedures for heart valve diseases are performed at the most significant German Heart Center Charité (DHZC):
- transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI);
- transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR);
- transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI).
According to the clinic, the success rate for the procedures is more than 95%. Proton therapy for ocular melanoma has been carried out at the Charité Interdisciplinary Oncology Center in cooperation with the Helmholtz Center Berlin (HZB) since 1998. The treatment usually requires four radiation sessions, which the patient receives over a week in a treatment room at HZB. According to the clinic, eye cancer is cured in 96% of patients. In most cases, not only the eye is preserved, but also the vision.
Non-surgical treatment of uterine fibroids at Charité
In the Gynecological Cancer Center, doctors use an innovative technique to treat uterine fibroids, an alternative to surgical intervention. MRI-guided focused ultrasound ablation (MRI FUS) is an outpatient procedure performed on an MRI table without incisions or anesthesia.
