Diagnosis: Treatment of spinal hernia

I just had a complicated spinal operation and was treated by Professor Stoffel and his team. Even the earlier discussions, which I found very unpleasant, were very informative and insightful. It gave me a lot of confidence and took away my fear of surgery. All medical care, information and procedures were exceptionally good. The nurses on the ward made my stay much easier than I imagined – thank you for that. There is still room for improvement when it comes to nutrition and its organizational process, but I came to Helios Clinic for something else.

Diagnosis: disc herniation

Refers to neurosurgery/spine.

Everything is fine! Many thanks to Dr. Send and team. There was a large disc herniation and almost a year of constant pain. Several times I was in different clinics for alternative treatment methods, nothing helped me. I was eventually transferred to Helios in Krefeld. After the operation, I was immediately able to walk and move normally. Thanks to the good care of the medical staff, I was able to recover quickly and return home.

1000 thanks everyone!!!

Diagnosis: disc herniation

Many thanks to the entire Helios team, especially neurosurgery and doctor Inna Moritz.

I came to the rescue center in severe pain with a herniated disc, the next day I was hospitalized and operated on. They even applied for REHA for me.

Thank you very much again.

Diagnosis: disc herniation

I was admitted to Sana Offenbach Hospital because of a herniated disc. I was very well looked after from the first second. My case was handled by 4-5 surgeons. The operation was discussed with me, and then carried out very competently and professionally. Here is an additional compliment to Dr. Ahmed Alhiji.:) A very competent and humane doctor.

The food was absolutely normal. The nurses and care were good.

Diagnosis: disc herniation

Disc herniation with paresis, during pregnancy at 30 weeks. I was treated at Sana Clinic Offenbach. I received excellent care and information. Spinal surgery, gynecology, neonatology, anesthesiology and neurology worked perfectly, the operation was a complete success! There were no complications, I am carrying a pregnancy without pain (after months of torment!!!)! Every head doctor, senior doctor, paramedic, nurse and other staff were incredibly pleasant, informative, professional and dedicated. We are very grateful that we finally found a clinic that took our extremely difficult situation and seriously made the right decisions!

Thank you!

Spinal hernia treatment in Germany: reviews

Spinal hernia treatment in Germany: reviewsPatients who have received medical care from German specialists thanks to Experts Medical explain in their reviews why they chose Germany for hernia treatment:

  1. The high level of German medicine and the lowest rate of medical errors in the world – less than 0.3%.
  2. German clinics offer the services of the best hernia experts in Europe, each of whom has performed more than 1,000 complex procedures. This gives a guarantee of a successful outcome of therapy.
  3. German neurosurgeons possess unique safe techniques, many of which are not available in patients’ home countries.
  4. Intervertebral hernia removal in Germany is performed using computerized neurosurgical systems for real-time tracking of manipulations. This reduces the probability of postoperative complications to zero and increases the successful prognosis of the intervention.
  5. The level of comfort and service in German hospitals meets world standards.

Many patients who were previously unsuccessfully treated in their home countries were able to get rid of the disease after treatment for intervertebral hernia in Germany.

Intervertebral hernia: general information

Spinal hernias are pathological formations that appear due to damage, or displacement of intervertebral discs. In some cases, congenital pathologies are recorded. The main cause of hernias German doctors call degenerative-dystrophic processes in the spine. They lead to the destruction of cartilage tissue, impingement of nerve endings and compression of the spinal cord.

The main symptoms of hernias, depending on the place of localization, can manifest themselves differently:

  1. Intervertebral hernia: general informationCervical (cervical) hernia. A person feels pulling pains in the back of the head, and neck, numbness of the fingers, severe headache, and dizziness.
  2. Hernia of the thoracic department. It is characterized by painful sensations in the back in the area of the chest & heart, which are similar to the symptoms of angina pectoris, intercostal neuralgia.
  3. Lumbosacral hernia. The most common localization is diagnosed in 65% of cases. It is manifested by sciatic nerve inflammation, acute back pain, shooting in the lumbar region, and sacrum. Many feel muscle weakness and loss of sensation in one or both limbs. Possible gait disorders, problems with urination, erection, constipation, paralysis of the limbs.

Timely examination and treatment of intervertebral hernia in Germany by experienced specialists increases the prognosis for complete restoration of spinal function and return to a usual way of life.

Spinal hernia treatment in Germany: diagnosis

German doctors pay special attention to the examination, which determines the choice of treatment tactics. In addition to examination, diagnostics may include:

  • magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – the most informative method of examination, which allows the doctor to examine the spinal column and soft tissues in detail;
  • X-rays of the spinal column to rule out or confirm trauma, tumors, and infections;
  • in some cases, nerve damage studies (myelography) and CT scans.

Treatment of spinal hernia in Germany is carried out according to an individualized scheme, developed taking into account the stage of the disease, the presence of concomitant pathologies and the general condition of the person.

Conservative treatment of intervertebral hernia in Germany

Many people are interested in how spinal herniated discs are treated in Germany. If the patient’s condition does not require extreme measures, German doctors carry out conservative therapy, which may include:

  1. Medication. It aims to relieve inflammation, control pain syndrome, and remove swelling from the spinal nerve. Prescribe epidural blockades, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antitussive, metabolic drugs and B vitamins.
  2. Physiotherapeutic methods. Conducted after stabilization of the patient’s condition. Doctors select the most appropriate techniques, among which are: manual therapy, therapeutic gymnastics, acupuncture, massage, and various methods of traction. Physiotherapy helps to relieve muscle spasms, restore flexibility to the vertebrae, and train the back muscles.

According to the data from German clinics, in 90% of cases, conservative treatment of intervertebral hernia in Germany leads to recovery or significant improvement of the person’s condition and allows to avoid surgical intervention.

Surgical treatment of spinal herniation in Germany

Surgical treatment of spinal herniation in GermanyIntervertebral hernia surgery in Germany is prescribed if physiotherapy and medication for 6-10 weeks have not improved the condition.

Treatment of hernias in Germany neurosurgeons perform mainly minimally invasive methods, including:

  1. Discectomy. The surgeon removes the damaged disc and replaces it with a titanium plate to stabilize the spine to prevent compression of nerve endings.
  2. Laminectomy. The doctor removes part of the vertebrae to relieve the pressure of the herniated disc on the nerve endings.
  3. Endoscopic surgical interventions. Performed using surgical microscopes, through small punctures in which the doctor inserts a thin tube with a mini camera. These are the most popular operations for removing intervertebral hernia in Germany among foreign patients. After them, no complications are recorded, and the recovery of disturbed functions is fast.
  4. Destruction of facet nerves. It is indicated for temporary reduction of pain syndrome. The essence of the procedure is the isolation of nerves using radio frequencies.
  5. Hydroplasty of the spinal disc. In the intervention process, the doctor injects special substances into the affected disc cavity, preventing its growth. It is recommended in the early stages of the process.
  6. Prosthetics, or replacement of the intervertebral disc. The operation is performed if there is a risk of spinal instability after the removal of the disc.

After surgical treatment of herniated discs in Germany, patients undergo intensive rehabilitation under the supervision of experienced specialists. For example, the Helios Krefeld Clinic has developed programs that allow patients to get on their feet on the day of surgery. At home, patients will need to refrain from heavy physical activity for some time and adhere to the doctor’s recommendations. After 6 months, patients can resume their everyday lifestyle.

Innovative methods of hernia treatment in Germany

Foreigners come to Germany for treatment of intervertebral hernia because of the progressive techniques that allow for gentle and effective elimination of the problem. In Germany, surgeons often use them to treat cervical hernias. Some of these techniques that are used at the University Hospital Freiburg:

  1. Innovative methods of hernia treatment in GermanyLaser removal of the intervertebral disc. Under MRI monitoring, the doctor inserts a thin needle with a microscopic laser into the intervertebral disc. The beam vaporizes the damaged part of the disc, so the pressure on the nerve roots is reduced.
  2. Laser reconstruction. To regenerate and stimulate the growth of cartilage cells, the doctor conducts microirradiation of the intervertebral disc with a special laser device.
  3. Autohemotherapy. Subcutaneously or intramuscularly, the doctor injects the patient with his blood. This triggers the regeneration of damaged cartilage, with no side effects. Sometimes, this procedure is used in parallel with surgical treatment of hernia in Germany for additional effect.
  4. Chemonucleolysis. The procedure is aimed at liquefying the hernia; for this purpose, the doctor injects a liquid enzyme into the disk cavity, which is pumped out after some time.
  5. Nucleotomy. Removal of damaged parts with the help of a screw probe.

Thanks to the professionalism of doctors, surgical treatment of intervertebral hernia in Germany is 97% successful and allows the patient to return to a full life.
