About clinic

Nordwest Clinic is a multidisciplinary academic medical center in Frankfurt am Main, which is known far beyond this region of Germany. Nordwest is the clinical base of the Goethe Medical University with 4 research institutes, including cancer research. It is included in the list of the Focus magazine “100 best clinics in Germany”.

In Nordwest, in addition to the usual clinical departments for a university hospital, there are 11 specialized centers, including:

International patients at Nordwest are in high demand for treatment for a variety of cancers. Many of them come for the treatment of oncohematological diseases, which require bone marrow transplantation. Minimally invasive and high-tech surgical interventions are popular, as well as the treatment of rare and serious diseases in adults and children.

Cancer treatment at Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main

Diagnosis and treatment of cancer are carried out in a large oncology center, opened in 2008 on the basis of Nordwest Clinic and the University Hospital in Frankfurt am Main. The University Cancer Center has huge medical and diagnostic resources for the treatment of cancer at the highest international level. In 2009 and 2013, it was recognized by the German Cancer Organization (Deutsche Krebshilfe) as the “Best Cancer Center”.

The oncology center has several departments specializing in the treatment of various types of cancer. Most of them are certified by the OnkoZert Institute of the German Cancer Society. They are headed by professors who are unique specialists with vast clinical experience. For example, the department of oncohematology is headed by Prof. Elke Jäger, who is included in the prestigious list of TOP German doctors of the popular Focus magazine.

The study of the genome of tumor cells is carried out in a modern molecular genetic laboratory. An interdisciplinary oncology board at Nordwest is developing a personalized treatment protocol. Oncologists use innovative treatment methods:

robotic operations;
targeted and immunotherapy;
stereotactic radiosurgery (on TrueBeam STx linear accelerator),
intraoperative radiotherapy;
peptide radioreceptor therapy for neuroendocrine tumors;
selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT);
intraoperative thermal chemotherapy, including hypothermic peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC);
HIFU (focused ultrasound);
other advanced antitumor techniques that require high-tech equipment and unique specialists.

In 2021, Nordwest topped Focus's “Top 100 Colon Cancer Hospitals” list. Nordwest Clinic has accumulated extensive experience in the complex treatment of colon and rectal cancer at any stage with good survival results.

Treatment of Vascular Diseases in Nordwest

The high-tech surgical and endovascular procedures are used in the Vascular Surgery Center:

elimination of narrowing of the arteries of the legs, arms, vessels of the brain, abdominal cavity, and kidneys;
surgical replacement of blood vessels and their stenting in case of aneurysms;
treatment of varicose veins;
therapy of infections of vascular prostheses;
restoration of vessels after injuries, oncology, operations on vessels, with congenital defects;
thrombosis and lymphedema therapy;
treatment of chronic wounds.

Vascular surgeons perform operations in hybrid operating rooms that are equipped with advanced angiographic equipment.

Robotic surgeries at Nordwest Clinic

At Nordwest, many surgeries are performed using the Da Vinci X surgical robot through the keyhole. The following interventions are conducted:
resection of the thymus in myasthenia gravis, tumors;
removal of a mediastinal tumor;
lung resection for cancer;
removal of a tumor of the stomach and esophagus;
hernia closure;
resection of the pancreas and liver;
removal of the prostate for adenoma and cancer;
partial resection of the kidney for tumors;
plastic surgery of the renal pelvis with its narrowing;
complex operations on the rectum for oncology and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Conditions of Stay for Foreign Patients in Nordwest

Patients are hospitalized in single and double hotel-type rooms, which are characterized by increased comfort.

Food is delivered to the room. When compiling the menu, the wishes and needs of foreign patients are taken into account. Each foreigner at Nordwest is provided with a personal coordinator and translator. Transfer from the airport is provided as well.

I have been here for 6 days for treating a pulmonary embolism. I passed through intensive therapy, monitoring. I can say that all doctors are very friendly and competent. I felt comfortable. There was nothing to complain about the food.

The only stupid thing is parking, which is quite expensive, and there are not any other options.
