Academic Hospital Solingen

Overall my experience with the clinic’s medical staff was mostly positive — the staff were friendly and willing to help.
However, in the postoperative period there was an unpleasant situation related to the transport that raised questions for me. I was especially alarmed that during transport after surgery the medical staff were not clearly identified, and my remarks about this were not taken into account.
The management also tolerates inappropriate staff behaviour towards patients and their relatives. In my opinion, transporting patients after anaesthesia, when they are in a vulnerable state, without clear identification of staff is problematic. A lack of identification means a lack of accountability, which is unacceptable in a medical institution.

I want to express, from the bottom of my heart, my huge and sincere gratitude.
My daughter was an oncology patient and underwent chemotherapy and antibody therapy. During this difficult period we were accompanied with exceptional medical and human attention.
Special thanks to the senior doctors, especially Dr. Zimmermann and the entire medical team. They were always there for my daughter, even on weekends and holidays, always available, involved and with great compassion. We never felt abandoned.
I would also like to specially mention the nursing staff of the oncology outpatient department. The nurses were always kind, professional, patient and competent. You can see that they do their work with heart and responsibility.
Thanks to the excellent treatment, professional decisions and human support, my daughter beat cancer. We are endlessly grateful. Please pass this gratitude on to the whole team — you do a huge job, professionally and humanely.

I want to thank the whole team of the Solingen city clinical centre, especially Mr. Haider from surgery. From the very beginning I felt I was in safe hands. He explained everything in detail, was calm and professional, which gave me confidence in a difficult situation.
He always responded to my complaints and gave me the feeling that I was truly heard and taken seriously. The medical staff were also attentive and friendly. I am very grateful for the care and can fully recommend the surgical department and Mr. Haider.

The pregnancy department was excellent. The doctors, midwives and nurses were very kind, professional, and supportive. I truly appreciate the care I receive. Because of my serious situation they transferred me to another hospital. The new hospital they transferred me to has the worst nursing staff I have ever encountered in my life. Maybe it’s because I’m African. They don’t care about me and don’t listen to me. I wish I could go back to Solingen Hospital.

I deliberately chose this clinic because it uses a modern Fast-Track programme. The principles are similar to ERAS: accelerated mobilisation, structured processes and gentle recovery. The DKZ certification was also important to me. The proximity of the clinic was also an advantage for examinations and follow-up.
During my stay I noticed a high flow of patients and at times a feeling of a “conveyor belt”. There was also a sense of understaffing, which sometimes led to shortened conversations and a lack of communication.
Nevertheless the staff remained friendly and tried to answer questions when there was time. Despite the workload, the medical processes were well organised, and I felt I was in safe hands. The Fast-Track programme helped me recover faster. Overall I am satisfied with my choice and recommend the clinic.

All the hospital staff are very kind and helpful, but in the Beta department the waiting is terrible — already 2 hours without any movement. That is why only 3 stars. If the wait were shorter, I would give 5 stars.

The staff were generally fine. But the food in the hospital turned out not to be what I am used to. The bread was damp and sticky, the cheese tasteless. If I tick black tea, I want to get it, not unpleasant mint tea. It seemed as if there was a lack of dishes, and instead of normal service plastic tableware was used in large quantities.
After a complaint the breakfast became perfect, but the use of plastic tableware was still disappointing.

I was very satisfied with Dr. Schneider in urology. He is not only extremely professional but also very attentive and friendly. Everything was clearly explained, and during the treatment I felt I was in safe hands. The medical staff were also very kind and helpful. A completely positive experience.

Honestly, I was never a fan of the Solingen clinic. But my husband was there as an outpatient in cardiology with Professor Becher and his team. He was received very kindly, helped and everything was explained in detail. Thank you to the whole station for the good reception despite the circumstances. Special thanks to Professor Becher for his humanity and easy-going approach.

I want to share my positive experience in the delivery ward and the postnatal ward. The whole team was very friendly, attentive and professional. During the birth I felt safe and well monitored, which gave me great trust. Special thanks to the midwife Bettina.
The care on the postnatal ward was also excellent. The medical staff were attentive, helpful and caring towards me and my baby. The atmosphere was calm and supportive, which made the stay very comfortable.
The only small downside was the food with the paid services: orders were written down but what was ordered was not always delivered, and on the second day they brought the same food as the day before.

Overall the impression of the surgery was good, but that is the only positive.
I was admitted to the ZNA with a broken wrist, having been brought in as an emergency from Egypt. The operation should have been done quickly, but I was made to wait 9 days. In the department they do not issue prescriptions, you have to go to another building and wait again. No one warned about this.
The medication was also chosen incorrectly, no stomach protection from ibuprofen was prescribed, which caused irritation of my stomach lining. In the end I am very disappointed.

My wife is very satisfied with the surgeons and the DaVinci technology. Thanks to the operation she quickly returned home and recovered. The medical staff in gynaecology were very friendly.

The doctors are overloaded, communication between nurses and doctors is weak. The patient felt poorly informed and left without proper attention. There were problems with the organisation of treatment and staff coordination.

When we came to the paediatric outpatient clinic with the child’s skin injuries, we were met rudely and with a lecturing tone. The staff were insufficiently attentive and irritated. A calmer and friendlier attitude towards children was expected.

My family and I came from Ireland in December for brain surgery, as I had suffered from epilepsy for 14 years because of a cavernoma. For many years I had seen many doctors and hospitals in Ireland trying to get this surgery, as it caused huge problems in my life: I could no longer play sports, go out and socialise with friends, or carry out normal daily activities without small or severe seizures. Last year it happened almost daily, and it affected me greatly.
I was lucky to speak by chance on the phone with Dr. Ralf Buhl, and from the first second I felt confident and for the first time thought it could really be fixed by surgery. He spoke with me and my family and said he could operate within a few weeks. We came to Solingen, met in person, and he discussed everything we needed in detail for as long as we needed. Two days after arriving I had the operation. I expected recovery to take 1–2 months, but thanks to Dr. Buhl and his team I was back home in Ireland within a week, able to walk, talk and, for the first time in years, live in peace.
From arrival until discharge Dr. Buhl personally monitored my condition and was always in touch, giving advice and answering questions. I recommend Dr. Ralf Buhl and his team to anyone facing a cavernoma or similar problems. Where I had seen no solution for 14 years, he helped in a matter of days. I am endlessly grateful that he changed my life and the life of my family.
I recently had the privilege of undergoing surgery at Klinikum Solingen under the guidance of Prof. Schenker and I would like to share my experience. From start to finish, my treatment and care was exceptional.
From my first appointment at the clinic, I felt well taken care of. The entire medical team took the time to answer my questions and discuss my concerns. Prof. Schenker himself was extremely professional and empathetic. He explained the planned operation, the risks and the expected course in understandable terms. This helped me to better prepare for the operation and alleviate my fears.
The operation itself went smoothly and without complications. Prof. Schenker and his team showed a high level of expertise and precision throughout the procedure. I felt in safe hands throughout.
After the operation, I was carefully monitored and received first-class post-operative care. The nursing staff were friendly, attentive and always ready to meet my needs. Prof Schenker visited me personally to check on progress and discuss further steps.
The recovery time was faster than expected and I am overjoyed with the results of the surgery. Prof. Schenker and the whole team really did a first-class job and I now feel healthier and happier than ever before.

At first everything was fine: the delivery room was excellent, the staff friendly.
But in urology a patient with blood in her urine and urination problems was insufficiently examined. The doctor mentioned possible bladder cancer, but no further diagnostics were carried out. A few months later bladder cancer was diagnosed and surgery was performed at another clinic.
There were also serious problems with service, waiting times and inefficient staff work in emergency situations.

There was a nose operation. The doctors and examinations are good, the staff mostly friendly.
But there were very long waits (up to 4–5 hours), paid parking, problems with dispensing medication after surgery and poor organisation of inpatient care. There were also no proper facilities for storing belongings and limited infrastructure for patients.
I recently went to the Solingen Clinic for a medical examination.
From the moment I made an appointment, I was treated in a friendly and alert manner. The staff at the international office were very helpful and assisted me with all administrative matters.
I was looked after by a highly skilled team of doctors and nurses during the examination. They took ample time to gather my medical history and performed a thorough examination. The medical equipment and facilities at the Solingen Clinic are impressive. Everything is clean, modern and well organised, which creates a pleasant atmosphere.
After the examination I received a detailed report with all results and recommendations. The report was well structured and helped me to better understand my health condition and take the necessary measures.
My wife and I went for a check-up at the Solingen City Clinic, just when we were traveling in Germany, we were advised by friends to go to the clinic for a health check-up. Of course, I am not a fan of this kind of pastime, as I associate hospitals and tests with unpleasant feelings, but my wife insisted and we signed up for a check-up. It all took 2 days and I was very pleasantly surprised how quickly, qualitatively and painlessly all the tests and examinations were done, especially the gastroscopy. The results were emailed to us as we could no longer stay at the clinic. Alexandra and Maria from the international department accompanied us and translated during consultations and sent us medical reports in two languages. I highly recommend the Solingen City Clinic!
I was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor, in Georgia doctors could not offer me quality treatment, I was choosing between a clinic in Germany and Israel, in the end I went to Solingen, to the center of gastroenterology to Professor Pfaffenbach. I underwent consultation, examination and surgery at the center, everything was smooth and on a high level! If I had any questions about the treatment or the consultation, I was always explained and supported, the professor is a top-level specialist, he saved my life, for which I am very grateful.
I would like to write a positive review on behalf of my husband, who was treated at the Solingen City Clinic. We returned home a few weeks ago happy and healthy. My husband’s treatment took about 6 weeks, during this time we went from fear and distrust to great joy and gratitude. In Minsk, doctors in our country only spread their hands and could not offer anything with the diagnosis of esophageal cancer with metastases to the lungs and liver. In Solingen we underwent radiation therapy, daily we were accompanied by staff from the international department, and there was no fear and anxiety due to the high level of medical care. Thank you again to the doctor and the clinic staff!
Thank you very much to Prof. Ralph Bull and the whole team at the clinic. They really saved my life.

Overall everything is very friendly and pleasantly organised, but the patient is practically forced not to eat and is woken up at night to check whether they are asleep.
The meal times are also set very inconveniently.
However, the staff are very friendly and respectful (this is just my experience).
Thank you very much to the specialists at Solingen Hospital, especially to Prof. Andreas Zestehenn. He solved the problem I had been struggling with for many years. I recommend the ENT department and the Solingen Clinic itself to everyone: everywhere is perfectly clean and tidy, the staff is very friendly and always ready to help with any problem!

The intensive care unit was good, they got my grandfather back on his feet. But then in the inpatient ward they said he was already suitable for rehabilitation. He had mucus and fluid in his body, and this was only noticed at the end, when he had to be resuscitated. Then he was transferred to a clinic in Wuppertal, where they admitted the mistake and wanted to send him back. After stabilisation he ended up at the Bethanien clinic, where unfortunately he died.

The delivery room, as well as the postnatal ward, were top in terms of staff. Everyone friendly and empathetic.
The hygiene on the ward leaves a lot to be desired: rounded corners in the bathroom, hair of the previous patient in the sink.

Despite an appointment, I had to wait 4 hours for a preliminary examination and the arrangement of two further appointments.
The staff in the ENT department were polite.
Already at the entrance everything generally seemed stressful and tense.
Got to the doctor Seifert after the usual check-up in Dusseldorf. The Solingen breast cancer treatment center was recommended not only by doctors, it found many reviews about it on the Internet. It is good that I had a disease in the initial stage, when it is easy to avoid serious consequences. Thanks to the hospital staff and the girls from the international department!
In Solingen, I performed an operation on knee arthroplasty. Excellent doctors, excellent clinic. After the replacement, I experienced absolutely no discomfort. Maybe a little pain. Just a week later, I could climb stairs. It’s been almost 4 months – everything is fine. Many thanks to the team of the orthopedic department and the head doctor!
