Many centers are leading national-level medical institutions, for example, the Center for the Treatment of Acute Leukemia and Myelodysplastic Syndrome. In this department, since 1992, hematologists have successfully used all types of bone marrow and stem cell transplantation in therapy. CAR T-cell therapy is also currently available to patients.
Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Cologne
About 3,500 high-tech medical procedures are performed annually in 5 operating units at the Neurosurgery Center. The center is divided into two highly specialized clinics. The Clinic of General Neurosurgery employs specialists in the field of:

- pediatric neurosurgery.

- neuromodulation in trigeminal neuropathy;
- radiosurgery of tumors using the CyberKnife unit.
Tumor treatment with CyberKnife at University Hospital Cologne
CyberKnife has been used at the University Hospital Cologne since 2011. More than 2,000 patients with the following diseases have already received radiosurgery using this unit:
- cancer metastases to the brain,
- meningiomas;
- acoustic neuromas;
- recurrent pituitary adenomas;
- arteriovenous malformations;
- other brain tumors.
The decision to perform radiosurgery at the CyberKnife facility is made by an interdisciplinary council.
Orthopedic surgery for the elderly at University Hospital Cologne
In addition to the traditional joint arthroplasty for the elderly, surgical treatment of repeated and chronic fractures of the femur, humerus, radius, vertebrae, and pelvis is performed in the clinic. With the help of innovative techniques, special implants, and prostheses, surgeons restore bone structures even in the case of severe osteoporosis and prolonged immobility. Early intensive rehabilitation of patients allows to restore movement and improve the quality of life.

Everything is organized very cool. I cannot believe that this is all for the taxpayers’ money. But in other hand, it is very expensive. Apparently, a good service costs so much. We came here to do an operation to remove a malignant tumor in our daughter. Were very pleased with the service. It is said that the pediatric oncology department in this clinic is, if not the best, then one of those.

We made a decision that I should give birth to our daughter in the university hospital. We were very impressed with midwives, nurses, and doctors. The team of midwives is incredibly well chosen, it consists of younger as well as more experienced midwives, all of whom are highly professional and all of them are very knowledgeable. We have never seen such a good working team as in the delivery room at the University of Cologne! As well, the care was perfect in the neonatal ward! Super good nurses and midwives gave advice: how to breastfeed, how to hold the baby in the arms, do up the baby, and so on.
We are very excited! We highly recommend this hospital!
