Thalassotherapia Opatija Center is a specialized clinic-resort in Croatia. All-the-year-round climatic treatment and rehabilitation of people with heart, lung, rheumatic and dermatological diseases is available here.
Wellness procedures are built on the beneficial therapeutic effects of thalassotherapy, that is treatment by the sea. The combination of a mild Mediterranean climate, sea water, therapeutic mud of the Naftalan thermal spring, and algae has a healing effect.
The center is located in the resort town of Opatija, 150 m from the Adriatic Sea. It is founded in 1957. The medical center is controlled by the Ministry of Health and the Training Center of Croatia.
Structure of Thalassotherapia Opatija Center
Thalassotherapia Opatija Center, the pride of Opatija, occupies an area of 2,500 sq.m. The modern equipment in the medical center allows physicians to conduct accurate diagnostics and prescribe successful complex treatments.
The structure of the health-improving complex includes three main parts:
- Thalasso Medico Medical Center;
- Health Center Thalasso Wellness;
- Hotel Villa Dubrava.
The medical staff of the clinic consists of 160 experienced specialists, including physiotherapists, cardiologists, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, dermatologists, and psychologists. The center employs 25 doctors who are leading Croatian specialists in the treatment and rehabilitation of various diseases.

Thalassotherapia Opatija is one of the first European health centers where rehabilitation was carried out on a modern scientific basis. In the medical and health center, patients are offered certified rehabilitation methods to solve the following medical problems:

- Pathologies of the musculoskeletal system: spondylosis, osteochondrosis, arthrosis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, intervertebral hernia, childhood poliomyelitis, condition after fractures, as well as surgeries on the spine and joints.
- Urological and gynecological diseases: inflammatory chronic diseases in women and men, glomerulonephritis, cystitis.
- Dermatological diseases: psoriasis, allergies, eczema.
Among foreign patients, procedures for general health improvement and prevention of the body, as well as SPA procedures are in demand.

After a spinal cord injury in an accident in December 2013, I began to recover a bit. Unfortunately, the Swedish healthcare system was not able to provide me with adequate rehabilitation, so I turned to the thalassotherapy center in Opatija, where I spent more than 13 months.
The clinic is directly connected to the University Hospital in Rijeka, so they can get almost all the specialists needed for each case in a short time or even in a very short time. Of course, the clinic also has very competent doctors.
During the rehabilitation, I had a physiotherapist, a doctor and a nurse at my disposal at all times, which made me feel completely safe.
During my stay, the Thalassotherapy Opatija staff were very positive.

The therapists are very professional, with a wealth of experience, and they do this by gently «pushing through» certain difficult exercises that you can’t refuse. I personally felt that they know what they are doing. Some of the problems that I had were partially resolved, and some disappeared.
