By a happy chance, I fell into the hands of experienced doctors of the South Korean Samsung Medical Center. I was already preparing for an operation in Moscow. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, my predictions were 50 to 50. Our doctors are always afraid to take on extra responsibility for the operation. If something goes wrong in the end, they will say that this is not those 50 percent. Suddenly it turned out that my father had agreed without me that they would put me on an operation at the Samsung Center in South Korea. At first I thought he was joking – well, what kind of treatment can be in a clinic with a name like a TV. But dad insisted that I go there at least for a consultation. It turned out that this is one of the largest medical centers in South Korea with a worldwide reputation. I was examined by doctors from Korea and the United States. They made an impression on me that I could completely trust my life to them, although I didn’t always respond well to the doctors. Needless to say about the state-of-the-art equipment there! In medicine, Korea justifies its leadership in the field of world technology too. I think I had a brilliant operation. For those doctors, this is their usual job. After the anesthesia, I did not feel any pain. Postoperative observations showed that the tumor was completely removed. In six months, I will go there again for a medical examination. I am absolutely sure that I won this terrible disease with the help of Korean doctors!

- Gamma Knife ICON Installation.
Samsung Clinic introduced the latest ICON Gamma Knife model for the first time in Asia in 2016 and is currently the only medical center in Asia with such two units. Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a radiation therapy method that shows the same therapeutic effect as surgery but does not require an incision. It is carried out by intensive exposure only to the area of the brain tumor with high-energy gamma radiation.
It is the gold standard for radiation therapy of hard-to-reach tumors. The linear accelerator repeatedly rotates around the patient. It simultaneously creates a CT image and irradiates the tumor.
The method works using a magnetic field and radio waves. The procedure is completely painless. The doctor may order an MRI with contrast. This means that a contrast agent will be injected into the body, which improves visualization.
- Linear accelerators LINAC, LINAC-IGRT.
The device sends X-rays or electrons to the tumor. Tumor cells are destroyed without damaging healthy tissues.
- Latest generation angiographs.
The doctor injects a contrast agent into the vessels, making them visible on X-rays, MRI or CT. There is angiography of the arteries (arteriography), veins (venography), and lymphography.
- Fusion PET-CT.
It is a combination of two different methods, namely positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT). For research, the doctor injects the patient with a small amount of weakly radioactive substances, the so-called indicators. Their distribution in the cells of the body becomes visible using a PET camera. CT scans work with x-rays that pass through the body. This creates images of the internal structure of the patient’s body.
Da Vinci robotic surgery.
Da Vinci provides the most accurate and minimally invasive intervention. During the operation, the surgeon sits at the control panel. The doctor controls the robot’s arms and microsurgical instruments with millimeter precision. The doctor sees the surgical field in three dimensions with a tenfold magnification.
- Cyclotron, particle accelerator.
The cyclotron uses magnetic fields to make cancer cells absorb protons and other particles. This causes tumor cells to glow on PET-CT images. Experienced doctors use the cyclotron for the diagnosis of malignant tumors and directly for radiation therapy of various forms of cancer.
- Computed tomography.
Computed tomography is used to diagnose various diseases and injuries. CT is necessary in case of bleeding, bone fracture, or if a stroke is suspected. CT plays an important role in the diagnosis of cancer. The doctor determines the size and location of tumors and the presence of metastases.
