About clinic

Fuda Cancer Hospital is a specialized tertiary cancer hospital in China, affiliated with Jinan University. The hospital was founded in 2003 by Professor Xu Kecheng and focuses on the treatment of malignant tumors, including at the intermediate and advanced stages.

In 2010, Fuda Hospital received the status of a National Key Clinical Specialty in oncology and accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI). The clinic is located in the city of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and receives patients from more than 100 countries around the world.

Main specializations of the Fuda clinic

Fuda Hospital specializes in the treatment of various types of malignant tumors, including:

  • liver cancer;
  • lung cancer;
  • pancreatic cancer;
  • breast cancer;
  • bowel cancer;
  • prostate cancer;
  • ovarian cancer;
  • nasopharyngeal cancer;
  • other oncological diseases.

One of the clinic's key areas is the treatment of lung cancer using cryoablation. During the procedure, the tumor is destroyed with ultra-low temperatures via a cryoprobe inserted through the skin. The method is used in patients for whom surgical treatment is contraindicated due to concomitant diseases, age or the location of the tumor. At Fuda Hospital, this procedure has been performed on more than 840 patients with non-small cell lung cancer, including stages III and IV of the disease.

The clinic also has extensive experience in treating advanced liver cancer. Fuda accepts patients who were refused surgery at other medical centers due to the late stage of the disease. One such patient has been followed up without recurrence for more than 16 years after treatment.

Another strong area is the treatment of pancreatic cancer. According to the hospital, the maximum recorded life expectancy of a patient with an advanced stage of this disease after treatment at Fuda was 15 years.

Achievements of the Fuda clinic

The professional level of Fuda Hospital is confirmed by the results of its clinical work, the introduction of new technologies and its scientific activity. Among them:

  • the first clinic in mainland China to introduce NanoKnife technology (irreversible electroporation) into clinical practice;
  • the largest experience in China in applying NanoKnife technology;
  • more than 10,000 cryosurgical ablations performed by the end of 2015 — the best result in the world at that time;
  • more than 500 irreversible electroporation procedures performed by 2019 — the greatest experience among clinics in Asia;
  • the first scientific publications in China devoted to cryosurgery and NanoKnife technology.

The hospital accepts patients of all ages. The youngest patient of the clinic was 11 months old, and the oldest was 93 years old.

Modern technologies at the Fuda clinic

The clinic uses more than 20 methods of cancer treatment without traditional surgery or radiation therapy. Among them are several areas in which Fuda has particularly extensive experience.

Irreversible electroporation (NanoKnife)

Short pulses of a high-voltage electric field destroy the cell membranes of malignant cells without heating the surrounding tissues, preserving the nearby vessels, nerves and ducts. This gives a chance of treatment to patients with cancer of the pancreas, liver, kidneys or prostate when the tumor is located near large vessels and surgical intervention is too risky. The procedure for a tumor about 3 cm in size takes approximately 5 minutes.

Argon-helium cryoablation

The method is based on the sequential freezing of tissues down to –160 °C followed by thawing with helium, which leads to the destruction of tumor cells. Thanks to the use of a cryoprobe only 2–4 mm in diameter, the method makes it possible to preserve healthy tissues as much as possible and to minimize blood loss. It is used for tumors of the liver, lungs, kidneys, breast and pancreas. Fuda Hospital has used this technology since 2000 and has already performed more than 10,000 such procedures.

Combined immunotherapy

Combined immunotherapy is one of the areas that Fuda Hospital is actively developing. The clinic has conducted more than 15 of its own clinical studies devoted to the use of this method in combination with cryoablation and NanoKnife technology for cancer of the lung, liver, breast, ovaries and other malignant tumors. According to the clinic, this approach makes it possible to reduce the recurrence rate after treatment by up to 50%.

Iodine-125 brachytherapy

During brachytherapy, microsources with the iodine-125 isotope are inserted into the tumor, providing local irradiation of the affected tissues for approximately 60 days. At Fuda Hospital, this method is combined with cryoablation in the treatment of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. According to the clinic, in 49 patients who underwent such treatment, a control CT scan after 3 months showed a reduction of the tumor or a halt in its growth in almost 90% of cases.

When it is worth considering Fuda Hospital

Turning to Fuda Hospital may be advisable in the following clinical situations:

  • surgical treatment is impossible or associated with a high risk;
  • the tumor is located near large vessels, nerves or other important anatomical structures;
  • it is necessary to assess the possibility of using minimally invasive treatment methods, such as cryoablation, irreversible electroporation (NanoKnife) or brachytherapy;
  • the disease is at an advanced or late stage, when additional treatment options need to be considered;
  • it is necessary to get a second opinion from specialists regarding the treatment of cancer of the lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, prostate or other malignant tumors.

If you are considering treatment at Fuda Cancer Hospital, the specialists of Experts Medical will help you select a suitable doctor, coordinate a treatment program and fully organize the trip to Guangzhou.

Hello, my name is Saule, from Kazakhstan. I want to express endless gratitude to the entire team of the Fuda Cancer Hospital. I brought my brother here in a very serious condition, when we had almost given up hope. But it was here that we met not just doctors, but true professionals with a capital letter and incredibly kind people. I am very grateful to Dr. Mao.

From the very first minutes, the level of organization is striking: everything is precise, without unnecessary fuss, with deep respect for the patient. The clinic’s doctors use advanced technologies that we could only dream of elsewhere. But the most important thing is their comprehensive approach and belief in the result, which is passed on to both the patient and their relatives.

My brother was given an individual treatment plan, and the results exceeded all our expectations! Many thanks for the sensitivity, round-the-clock support and for the fact that this clinic fights for every patient to the end. If you are looking for a place where modern medicine is combined with genuine care — this is Fuda.

I am a patient from Malaysia and recently underwent treatment at the Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou. Now my health is improving day by day, and my mood has become much better. I am sincerely grateful from the bottom of my heart.

When my family and I first arrived at Fuda, we were very worried and did not know what to expect. But the warm welcome, thorough examination and professional explanations from the doctors and staff quickly reassured us. My attending physician’s dedication, the precise treatment plan and the attention of the entire medical team helped me recover physically and gave me confidence throughout the process.

Diagnosis: Cancer

I am a cancer patient from Malaysia. When I was first diagnosed, I was completely lost and gripped by fear. Later a friend recommended the Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou to me, and that is how my journey of treatment abroad began.

From the very first consultation, the hospital’s service team worked extremely professionally. They helped arrange the analysis of my medical records, provide treatment recommendations and organize the trip to China. After arriving in Guangzhou, I was provided with an interpreter, and the hospitalization went smoothly. The doctors carefully studied my examinations and developed an individual treatment plan based on cryoablation combined with traditional Chinese medicine to strengthen the body and reduce side effects.

The treatment went much more easily than I had expected. Cryoablation is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require open surgery, and recovery was quite fast. Today the tumor is under control, and my strength has significantly recovered. I am sincerely grateful to the Fuda Cancer Hospital for a second chance at life.

Diagnosis: breast cancer

I came here for my mother’s interventional chemotherapy, and the experience turned out to be surprisingly good. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer; after surgery the doctors suggested she undergo chemotherapy in Mumbai, but I was not ready for that, knowing the condition after such therapy. I researched information online, consulted an oncologist and, with the recommendations I received, flew to China.

The hospital and service were excellently organized. It has been almost four and a half years and, thank God, my mother feels great, she is now 75 years old.

Diagnosis: rectal cancer

My father was recently diagnosed with stage 2 rectal cancer. He went for treatment at the Fuda Cancer Hospital in China and returned 29 days later cancer-free. According to doctors in the USA, including the Johns Hopkins cancer center, recovery here would have taken a year and a half, with radiation and chemotherapy and two separate surgeries.

At the Fuda Hospital the tumor was removed surgically, and now he is free of cancer without a single session of radiation or chemotherapy. Wonderful staff, excellent doctors, an exceptionally clean facility. I highly recommend the Fuda Hospital. Special thanks to Yasmin and Dr. Hasan.

For more than a year (from 2014 to 2015) I accompanied my beloved father during his treatment at this hospital. A wonderful team of doctors, very attentive, remarkable nurses, and the interpreters (there were three Indonesian-speaking people at the time) truly became both interpreters and real friends to us.

On the floor there was the opportunity to buy tasty food that suited us very well. I wish the Fuda Hospital to become even better and to help oncology patients. Many thanks to the team of doctors, nurses and interpreters for caring for my father.
