How is infertility treated in Emsey?
The IVF in Emsey Center accepts couples with various forms of infertility:

In Emsey, a neurosurgeon performs a minimally invasive operation to remove such a herniated disc – endoscopic microdiscectomy, which is the “gold standard” for the treatment of herniated discs.

How is radiotherapy for cancer performed in Emsey?
At Emsey, physicians use a Trilogy linear accelerator to carry out cancer radiotherapy. With this device, radiologists use 5 radiation modes:
- 3D CONFORMAL – three-dimensional conformal irradiation in accordance with the shape of the tumor;
- IMRT – radiotherapy with modulated intensity;
- VMAT – short time (4 min), accurate and powerful irradiation using special equipment in the form of an arc;
- IGRT – CT-guided radiation therapy;
- SRS – stereotactic radiosurgery or single or double point irradiation of tumors.
All types of radiotherapy allow maximum preservation of healthy tissues and minimize complications during irradiation of a tumor of any location, shape and size. The radiologist is a member of the oncological council, which individually selects the method of radiotherapy for each patient.
What innovative cancer treatment methods are available at Emsey?
The following innovative cancer treatments are available at the Department of Nuclear Medicine:
- Treatment of primary and metastatic liver cancer by radioembolization.
For treatment, doctors use microspheres ranging in size from 20 to 50 microns, labeled with radioactive yttrium-90. Using a catheter through the femoral artery, they are injected directly into the vessel that supplies blood to the tumor in the liver. The microspheres accumulate in the tumor and irradiate it. This method is applied for 4-5 years. Approximately 200 patients receive this therapy annually.

- astrocytoma, meningioma;

- thyroid cancer;
- small cell and non-small cell lung cancer;

- sarcoma;
- renal carcinoma.
This type of treatment is indicated for the treatment of all inoperable and metastatic neuroendocrine tumors that show a positive SSTr content on a dedicated PET-CT scan with Ca 68 DOTA peptide. Lutetium-177-labeled peptide is diluted with isotonic sodium chloride solution (10-100 ml) and injected intravenously over 10-20 minutes. The patient stays for at least one day in a single room with special equipment. The course of therapy is usually carried out in the form of 4-5 cycles at intervals of 6-8 weeks.
Treatment with the Lu-177 peptide prolongs life, reduces symptoms, restores biochemical markers to normal, and improves the quality of life in patients with SSTr-positive neuroendocrine tumors.
How are bariatric surgeries performed in Emsey?
In obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40, surgeons in Emsey perform bariatric surgery. Before the operation, the patient is evaluated by a multidisciplinary team, including endocrinologist, surgeon, therapist, psychiatrist, and nutritionist. The appropriate surgical method is selected depending on the age and health of the patient.
All surgeries are performed laparoscopically. They use three methods:
Adjustable gastric band. It is performed by applying a silicone band around the stomach. It inflates by injecting fluid from a container just under the skin. The bandage compresses the stomach in the form of an hourglass and restricts food intake.
Sleeve gastrectomy. The operation is performed by removing approximately 75-80% of the volume of the stomach from the digestion process. This type of bariatric surgery has gained popularity due to the low complication rate and excellent weight loss results.
Gastric bypass. It is performed by dividing it into two parts and connecting a small part of the stomach to the small intestine. In the process of digestion after surgery, only a small part of the stomach is involved, which ensures weight loss.

Can a 13-year-old child with severe scoliosis undergo surgery at Emsey?
Emsey has a spinal surgery center run by Prof. Mehmet AYDOĞAN with 17 years of experience in scoliosis surgery. He has been involved in the treatment of 10,000 patients with scoliosis.

- An interdisciplinary approach is used in the diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis. The council includes a neurosurgeon, an orthopedist, a neurologist, a physiotherapist, a rehabilitation therapist, a psychologist, and other narrow specialists.
