Spinal Hernia Treatment in Germany

Treatment of intervertebral hernia

A "lazy" lifestyle, poor posture, a sudden movement – all of these can lead to the development of an intervertebral hernia.
To understand what this is, we need to recall anatomy. Between the vertebrae are discs, peculiar "pads" that give the spine flexibility and strength.
When a disc is damaged, nerve endings are pinched, and the disc itself compresses like a ball and protrudes beyond the vertebrae.
This is how the disease arises.

An intervertebral hernia can be located in one of three sections of the spine:

  • lumbosacral;
  • cervical;
  • thoracic.

Methods of spinal hernia treatment in foreign clinics

If there are no symptoms of neuralgia with an intervertebral hernia, conservative treatment is considered appropriate, which includes:

  • medication;
  • аппаратная физиотерапия;
  • therapeutic exercises;
  • acupuncture and massage.

Improvement usually occurs after one to one and a half months of such procedures. However, if patients have symptoms of neuralgia, surgical intervention is indispensable.

Foreign clinics practice several methods of surgical treatment for intervertebral disc herniation:

  • Endoscopy. This is one of the most modern approaches to intervertebral disc herniation removal. Doctors make a small incision in the tissues above the damaged vertebra, then insert a probe and microsurgical instruments that have a flexible structure. This technique minimizes trauma to muscle and nerve fibers and does not disrupt the anatomy of the vertebrae. The operation is monitored through a special video camera located inside the incision, which transmits an enlarged image to a monitor.
  • Laminectomy. During the operation, the vertebral arch is removed, which allows the nerve to be freed from compression.
  • Discectomy. The damaged disc is completely removed, and the nerve roots are fully decompressed.
  • Spinal Fusion. The spinal segment with the herniation is stabilized, and adjacent vertebrae are fused with a bone or synthetic implant.
  • Nucleotomy. Performed through a small incision in the tissues in the area of the vertebra with the herniation. During the operation, the protruding part of the disc is removed.
  • Radiofrequency Ablation. Consists of a series of special procedures that reduce the sensitivity of the affected spinal segment. Under the influence of current, the pinched nerves undergo changes and become less sensitive. This method can relieve the patient from pain for several years.
  • Intervertebral Disc Replacement. In advanced cases, when none of the above methods are indicated, surgical intervention is performed for disc transplantation. The implant is made of high-quality materials and can last for more than ten years.

All procedures, whether surgery or therapeutic treatment for a herniated disc, are performed in foreign clinics using modern equipment, with the involvement of the best doctors and the application of advanced technologies and achievements.
