Multiple Sclerosis Treatment

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is primarily a disease of the nervous system. The disease has a complex and chronic course.
Being characteristic of young and middle-aged people from 15 to 40 years old, it attracts increased attention due to its relevance to treatment methods and causes, which are not yet fully understood.
The disease arises due to the accumulation of multiple sclerosis plaques. Plaques or scars form at the site of damaged healthy nerve tissue after new connective tissue grows in the lesion. They can reach sizes from several millimeters to several centimeters if the disease progresses. They scatter throughout all parts of the nervous system, hence the term multiple sclerosis.
Within these accumulations, the white matter covering the nerve fibers of the spinal cord and brain is destroyed. Analogous to an electrical conduction system, this white matter (myelin) is like insulation on wires. Damage to the insulation (demyelination) leads to inevitable problems throughout the entire network. With a progressive course of such a disease, different parts of the nervous system can be affected simultaneously.
As the disease progresses, there is a decline in intellect, behavioral disturbances, signs of emotional instability with frequent sharp mood swings in a short period. In more severe forms of the disease, basic motor functions are impaired, leading to loss of mobility.
Treatment Methods
In the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis, the following tasks can be identified:
- Impact on foci of autoimmune inflammation;
- Prevention or delay in the development of new exacerbations;
- Impact on symptoms that hinder the ability to work and lead a normal lifestyle;
Medication for Multiple Sclerosis
Medication for multiple sclerosis affects the functionality of immune cells. Such treatment is effective because malfunctions in the immune system provoke the onset of this syndrome. Depending on their purpose, medications used to treat MS are divided into:
- Immunomodulators, which regulate the body's immune response. In the case of immunomodulators, interferons are used, which achieve the effect of reducing the activity of immune cell proliferation and, at the same time, an anti-inflammatory effect; their action also significantly slows down the onset of disability.
- Immunosuppressants, which suppress the immune response;
- Corticosteroids are used to increase the concentration of hormones in the body during the exacerbation phase of MS. This is intended to reduce the duration of inflammatory reactions and edema.
- Cytostatics - reduce the severity and frequency of exacerbations, reduce the likelihood of new foci of white matter destruction in the brain.

Innovations in Therapy
Thanks to the latest advances in medications, it has become possible to influence the restoration of nerve sheaths. The use of biopolymers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in improving nerve impulse conduction and neuron nutrition has elevated drug therapy for multiple sclerosis in Germany to a qualitatively new level.
Thanks to the application of modern nano- and biotechnologies in Europe, the method of extracorporeal hemocorrection is successfully practiced. This method has brought the treatment of multiple sclerosis to a new level. This method involves high-tech purification of the patient's blood and selective removal of health-adverse blood components, as well as modification of components necessary for vital activity.
The use of monoclonal antibodies has proven to be a relatively new and actively developing method. These antibodies are protein molecules and are oriented to perform specific tasks. By attaching to damaged cells that cause multiple sclerosis, these antibodies direct the immune system's action.
In the early stages of multiple sclerosis, the effectiveness of stem cell transplantation is evident and allows the disease to be halted for several years and prevent disability. Although in later stages, the effectiveness of this operation significantly decreases. Therefore, it is very important to consult leading specialists practicing multiple sclerosis treatment in Europe in a timely manner!

Why treatment in Europe?
European clinics are increasingly applying the latest achievements in the field of multiple sclerosis treatment. Highly qualified specialists, using and constantly improving the latest technologies, offer real hope for effective comprehensive treatment and further health restoration.
If the ailment is detected in a timely manner, the discussion will be, if not about complete recovery, then about reducing a larger number of lesions, which will help prolong the patient's full life and significantly reduce the manifestations of the disease.
