About Sava Memorial Hospital
Sava Memorial Hospital is a multidisciplinary hospital in Belgrade, Serbia. It is also called Sava Medical Hospital. Its Center for Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgery treats children and adults with defects and diseases of the urinary and genital organs. These are birth defects such as hypospadias (the urethra opens on the underside of the penis). The center also treats problems that appear later, such as narrowing of the urethra. It also performs repeat operations when earlier treatment in other clinics did not give a good result. We send international patients to this hospital and help them with the whole trip.
Treatments at Sava Memorial Hospital
- Birth defects of the urinary and genital organs. Hypospadias, where the opening is not at the tip of the penis. Epispadias, where it opens on the upper side. Bladder exstrophy, a rare defect in which the bladder lies open on the abdominal wall. Complex defects of the external genitals.
- Functional problems. Urethral strictures (narrowing of the urethra), a neurogenic bladder (poor bladder control after nerve damage), urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction.
- Penile reconstruction. Surgery for Peyronie's disease, a curve of the penis caused by scar tissue, phalloplasty (building or rebuilding the penis with the patient's own tissue) and penile prostheses (implants that restore an erection).
- Repeat operations. The center takes patients who had surgery elsewhere without a satisfying functional or cosmetic result. It also does reconstruction after injury and after cancer treatment.
- Gender surgery. The doctors perform transgender surgery, including male-to-female vaginoplasty.
- Urology and gynecology. Treatment of kidney stones, prostate diseases and male infertility, and laparoscopic operations for fibroids, endometriosis and ovarian cysts. Many urological operations are one-day procedures.
Where possible the surgeons use minimally invasive laparoscopic and endoscopic methods, microsurgery, tissue reconstruction and grafts. They also choose methods that protect urination and sexual function.

Sava Memorial Hospital Belgrade: location and your stay
The hospital stands in the residential district of Dedinje in Belgrade, at Neznanog junaka 17. It has its own parking next to the entrance. The inpatient department and the operating block work around the clock. Outpatient visits take place on weekdays from 7:00 to 20:00 and on Saturdays from 8:00 to 13:00. Staff speak Serbian, English and Russian.

This is not our first operation. Before that we had 3 operations in Ukraine, but only the last one gave a small result. In Ukraine we were told that we need 2 more surgeries, each of which will last 8 hours… so we decided to go to Belgrade, to Rados Djinovic, from whom all our doctors learn in this area. And it was the right decision! The clinic is gorgeous, the attitude of the doctors and all the staff is the best. I was understood even with my poor English. And there was always a person who could translate all my questions. And most importantly, Radosh Jonovic and his team did everything in one step and in 3 hours. Rehabilitation was much easier. Dr. Vadim solved all the issues from Odessa to our departure. Thank you very much to him. At first I was very worried about how I would cope in another country without knowing the language. But he explained everything in detail, was always on the phone, answered all questions in detail, and I was calm. Thank you very much to Dr. Jinovich, his team, and Dr. Vadim. Now my child is healthy and we have gotten through all these surgeries thanks to this trip! A huge gratitude and low bow!

This is a person with great empathy and patience – he gave explanations and recommendations to all my million questions and worries very competently, quickly and professionally. Our doctors in Kazakhstan recommended corrective surgery for my son and recommended a clinic in Serbia. Dr. Konstantin helped us to contact the clinic directly and get their absentee consultation. In addition, we were organized an in-person diagnosis at the LIV University Hospital (Istanbul). Fortunately, the need for surgery was not confirmed and we returned home. I would like to express my gratitude for my son’s surgery to everyone involved. Dr. Djinovic from Sava Memorial Hospital is a great professional, he has golden hands. I am happy that we chose him and went to him. He is incredibly sensitive to all patients, very attentive, and from our first meeting he gave us confidence and peace of mind. We are very happy with the result. It is a happiness to see a great result. Dr. Tamara (children’s pediatrician) is very affectionate and always ready to listen and answer all questions. This is so important when you are in another country with a child and need clarity and a complete picture. All the nurses are so caring and treat every patient with such warmth and care. I would like to express my special thanks to Natalia, through whom I corresponded with the doctor. Despite the huge amount of work, Natalia was always in touch, always tried to help and find a way out of the situation. I will not get tired of thanking all of you! Thank you very much!
About the surgery itself. Before the operation the child was given a relaxing syrup, without stress took the child to the operating room. After 2.5 hours the child was brought asleep in the room. Waking up was easy. There were no side effects from the anesthesia. The child did not vomit, an hour later there was an appetite. The food in the clinic is excellent. Before the operation they specify all your preferences. Painkillers were not taken. The next day after the examination of the surgeon and all the doctors were able to check out and independently go to the apartments. We are very satisfied with the result, everything is very neat. I think the recovery will be very easy thanks to all the staff of the clinic. It is a happiness to see your child healthy and happy! Thank you all very much! I have just had surgery at Saint Sava Memorial Hospital and could not be more grateful. From the phone calls to prepare everything and the first visit to the hospital, from check-in to discharge — every staff member was kind, friendly, attentive, responsive and professional. The care was expert-level, and the atmosphere was calm and reassuring.

The doctors are excellent, the male medical staff too. The female medical staff — it was as if I had ended up in a public hospital and they had come to work irritated.
The situation started with the reception not even being aware of why I had come; several employees came up and asked whether I had paid for the procedure.
Then a nurse, with my height of 170 cm and weight of 60 kg, told me I was «too big» and asked whether I was sure I wanted to get up after the procedure, because she «could easily drop me».
Later I called a nurse because of pain and a spasm in my arm from the catheter (cannula); she promised to come right back and remove it, but it was almost 2 hours before a doctor and another nurse came, and they did not even know about the problem.
The food was cold.
Only the soup was warm; the puree and chicken were inedible.
The food was brought only after the doctor checked whether I had been given any meals, and he was shocked that I had been brought nothing.
The surgery was successful, but the behavior of the female staff made me wonder whether it was even worth coming and paying money at this clinic. After all, it is a private clinic, and we choose where to spend our money. I know I will not come back here.

Finally, I found a full range of services in the field of urology and urogenital surgery in one place. My recent experience has been very positive. First I had a prostate biopsy, although it was a very disturbing situation and a lot of uncertainty, thanks to the well-established and, above all, extremely attentive team of urologists at Sava Memorial Hospital and my brilliant doctor, urologist Dr. Sasha Tomovich, everything went very easily and quickly. . In the end, I was lucky, as the biopsy showed no tumor. After that, I had prostate surgery due to poor urination.
