MedAustron Clinic is an Austrian center for radiotherapy. It has been operating since 2016 in the small town of Wiener Neustadt near Vienna. The clinic is ISO 9001 accredited. MedAustron is a unique medical institution where cancer patients can receive innovative types of radiation therapy.
The medical center specializes in proton and ion-carbon radiation therapy. It is the only one in Austria and one of the 6 clinics in the world with such a specialization. The equipment for this type of therapy is expensive, so this treatment is available in a few medical centers in the world. MedAustron has the capacity to see 1,000 international patients annually.
The center is headed by the world's leading oncologist-radiologist, Professor Eugen Hug. The doctor worked at the University of Zurich and headed the Paul Scherrer Institute for Protons in Switzerland. He specializes in the treatment of malignant neoplasms in children. As well, he is an author of numerous scientific publications.
The building was designed to the exacting standards of Forster Sandwich Construction. In order to protect patients and staff from exposure to radiation, the construction of the center took into account technical safety requirements.
250 highly specialized specialists from 18 countries are employed in the clinic. Among them are medical physicists, radiation oncologists, and radiological technologists. The hospital is equipped with 3 treatment rooms:
All treatment rooms are equipped with special robotic units. They are used to properly fix the patient during the session.
The clinic features a Research Institute, which conducts research in the field of radiation oncology.
The specialists of the center cooperate with the leading institutes of Austria. There is also a children's section, equipped and designed to suit the needs of the child.
The main difference between the treatment of oncological diseases with protons and the traditional beam is that proton beams irradiate only the affected area.
Treatment with protons and carbon ions is most effective for tumors that are located close to vital organs. For example, in the eyeball, brain and spinal cord, base of the skull, mammary gland, spine, gastrointestinal tract, and prostate gland.
Radioactive radiation, passing through the patient's body, acts exactly on the tumor. At the same time, healthy tissues and organs are not damaged. After this procedure, the risk of complications is minimal.
It is necessary to come to MedAustron in the following cases:
In general, therapy in the clinic is suitable for all patients who are indicated for radiotherapy. Treatment with protons and carbons has the following features:
Proton therapy sessions are carried out daily according to an individual scheme. The duration of the course is determined by the doctor. MedAustron has an outpatient treatment system only.
MedAustron Clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment.
The following settings are available for patients for diagnosis and treatment:
Currently, the clinic is installing new systems to expand the range of diseases for therapy and make it more accessible.
MedAustron has partnered with agencies to help arrange patient accommodation. You can choose from rooms, hotels, or apartments located near the medical center.
Also, the services of transport companies and car rental services are available to patients at reduced rates. MedAustron Center accepts health insurance from any EU country.
