Lung cancer treatment
Lung cancer - treatment in Germany

Lung cancer is the pathological destruction of lung tissue in various parts of the lung (bronchial carcinoma and mesothelioma (oncological lesion of the pleura)).

Very often, the development of the tumor process in the lungs is due to the influence of a number of external factors:
  • smoking (including passive);
  • heredity;
  • severe air pollution;
  • working with asbestos and other hazardous substances;
  • scarring in lung tissues.
Typical specific symptoms for the process of cancer formation in the lungs are not characteristic. A cough can be an alarming signal, but it can also indicate other lung diseases. One should consider a diagnosis of lung cancer when the expectorated sputum contains traces of blood (a symptom of late-stage cancer), and the cough remains severe despite antibiotic therapy. A very small percentage of lung cancer patients are detected during general examinations.

Lung Cancer Treatment in Germany

German oncologists are globally recognized professionals in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of malignant neoplasms, including lung cancer. The collaboration of doctors from various oncology centers in Germany, conducting their own research, and developing new drugs steadily increase the effectiveness of pharmacological therapy. The number of patients in Germany who have fully recovered from lung cancer or entered remission annually grows.

The choice of therapeutic tactics for lung cancer treatment directly depends on the type of cancer and the extent of the tumor process:

  • operable carcinoma is removed along with a section of healthy lung tissue and is often supplemented with chemotherapy;
  • advanced carcinoma undergoes chemo- or radiotherapy (or a combination of both methods - multimodal therapy). These methods are also often used before surgery to reduce tumor size;
  • palliative methods for lung cancer - stent placement, endoluminal brachytherapy, bisphosphonate therapy, etc. - allow for the relief of pain and other unpleasant syndromes when complete cure of the patient is not possible.
Also, today, oncologists in Germany are working on the mechanism of influencing the tumor with antibodies that block the growth of the neoplasm or its nourishing vessels, as an adjuvant treatment method.
