hospital treatment, ophthalmology
I rate Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital very highly for the quality of medical care my relative recently received.
I would especially like to mention the specialists who performed exceptionally well: Dr. Vinaykumar Thapar, general surgeon, and his team; Dr. Pavitra Bhat, ophthalmologist; Shweta at the admissions desk; Varsha Sawant at the help desk; Pratap More from the radiology department.
Before starting treatment, I recommend discussing the estimated cost with your insurance company to understand what additional amount may be needed. I saw that many patients had difficulties obtaining full cashless approval from the insurance TPA.
The hospital's TPA department may need more staff, because at times the process feels complex and stressful for patients' relatives.

eye disease, risk of vision loss
Very responsive and friendly staff, service is fast. Practically no delays or long waits before seeing the doctor.
I have been visiting this hospital since 2017 and have never had any reason to complain. I have mostly consulted the ophthalmology department with Dr. Pavitra S Bhat.
I keep coming back to her because she always knows how to reassure me with her words and a very attentive, humane approach. She is an excellent specialist, and her diagnoses are always accurate.
I went through very difficult periods with my eye and almost lost vision in one of them. But I trusted her recommendations, and thanks to that I managed to preserve not only my eye but also my peace of mind. My deepest gratitude to Dr. Bhat for her dedication to her work.

Branch retinal vein occlusion
I have been under the care of Dr. Pavitra Bhat since 2017 for several eye conditions, especially branch retinal vein occlusion.
She is very patient — a wonderful doctor who knows how to make the patient feel comfortable and less anxious. She explains everything in detail and offers the best option for the specific case. I fully trust her — I have been her patient for a very long time.

Stroke aftermath, vision impairment
We were referred to Dr. Pavitra because my mother had stroke symptoms that affected her vision. My mother is someone who dislikes going to doctors, but even she was convinced to continue treatment thanks to the doctor's approach.

Retinal check-up
My entire family goes to Hiranandani Hospital. We first came to Dr. Pavitra S Bhat, ophthalmologist, for a retinal check-up. Later I also started consulting Dr. Neeraj Tulara about post-COVID weakness.
Now my entire family and relatives use this hospital for most health issues.
The atmosphere in the hospital doesn't feel like a typical hospital. The staff is polite — from the security at the entrance to the doctors.
Keep up the good work.

Clinical experience: over 22 years

Dr. Pavitra Shanbhag Bhat is an experienced ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, Associate Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital in Powai (Mumbai, India). She has been a full-time consultant ophthalmologist at this hospital since 2010, and was a visiting consultant there from 2006.

Her main areas of work are cataract surgery (including injection-free phacoemulsification), glaucoma surgery (including combined procedures for coexisting cataract and glaucoma), and corneal surgery — from classical transplants to complex reconstructions. This is especially valuable for patients who present with several vision problems at the same time.

Beyond the anterior segment, she has experience with complex posterior segment procedures — retinal detachment surgery, vitrectomy, endolaser treatment, silicone oil and gas injections. The combination of anterior and posterior segment skills in a single surgeon is uncommon and important for patients with ocular trauma or combined pathology.

Dr. Bhat has received a series of academic awards: first place across India in the DNB exam (gold medal and the Dr. G. Venkataswamy award), gold medals in the postgraduate ophthalmology exam of the University of Mumbai. She holds international certification FRCS (Glasgow) and completed a fellowship in medical retina at Aravind Eye Hospital (Madurai) — one of the world’s leading ophthalmology institutes.

Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital is a large multi-specialty hospital in Powai (Mumbai, India). It is a modern facility with a broad range of specialized services: ophthalmology, cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopedics and other directions. Patients with eye conditions benefit from the multi-specialty setting: related specialists can be involved when needed, all within the same building.

The ophthalmology department itself covers cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma procedures, keratoplasty, strabismus and eyelid surgery, as well as medical retina. This rare combination within a single service allows the patient to be managed by one team without referral to other centers.

The hospital has a dedicated International Patient division offering coordination, visa and accommodation support. This is convenient for patients from the CIS choosing Mumbai. Powai is located about 20–30 minutes by car from Mumbai International Airport.
