Diagnosis: treatment of stomach cancer

My father was diagnosed with the disease last year. He went to the doctor when he started eating little and losing weight. Said that food is hard to pass.

On ultrasound, the doctor did not find any pathology and recommended a gastroscopy. The study revealed a suspicious formation, the doctor made a biopsy. Diagnosis showed that my father has stage 3 stomach cancer.

In order not to waste time, we turned to the Assuta Clinic. Here, Prof. Moshe Inbar sent my father for examination. The diagnosis was confirmed, it was good that there were no metastases. The doctor prescribed surgery and chemotherapy, saying that it was impossible to postpone the intervention.

As a result, we performed a total gastrectomy: the surgeon removed the entire stomach and 20 lymph nodes, directly connected the esophagus and intestines. But there was no huge suture on the stomach.

For about two weeks Dad had to stay in the hospital. Here he was recovering from the surgery under the constant supervision of the medical staff. Finally, there was a checkup to make sure everything was well fused. Dad was discharged home.

The quality of life has gotten worse and harder, but Dad is alive. That’s the main thing. He’s eating small meals at regular intervals. He has regular checkups.

I was treated at Assuta, they have modern diagnostic equipment, the examination took 4 days, after which I was offered a partial gastrectomy. The surgery was done using a robotic surgeon, which is very precise. The tumor was removed completely, and a second examination showed no cancer cells or metastases.

Diagnosis: treatment of stomach cancer

My first symptom of stomach cancer was pain after eating. When it started to get worse, I went to the doctor. After a number of examinations I was diagnosed with stage 2 stomach cancer and a large number of lymph nodes were affected. Dr. Ron Greenberg operated on me, he knows all the new techniques and there are a lot of good reviews about him, so I went to him.

Why is it advisable for patients to undergo gastric cancer treatment abroad?

Treatment of stomach cancer abroadTreatment of stomach cancer abroad is a chance to receive effective therapy and be cured of the cancer forever. People from Central Asia, Arab countries, and Eastern Europe prefer stomach cancer treatment abroad for the following reasons:

  • Patients are examined using modern medical equipment. Analyzes are performed according to modern protocols using oncological tests. As a result, a person receives a correct diagnosis with clarification of the type of cancer to be treated.
  • Access to new drugs and the opportunity to participate in experimental medical programs free of charge.
  • Tumor removal by leading oncologists. The opportunity to discuss the situation and make a decision together with doctors about the method of intervention.
  • Get a service that focuses on the physical and moral comfort of patients.

Gastric cancer treatment abroad, according to Experts Medical patients, met their expectations. Conditions in foreign clinics often resemble a good hotel.

What are the benefits of treating stomach cancer abroad?

Choosing to treat stomach cancer abroad gives patients access to advanced methods and a high level of medical care, which also affects the outcome of the disease.

gastric cancer treatment abroadAmong the main priorities:

  • Unlike many countries with limited resources, overseas cancer centers can offer quick access to necessary procedures and medications.
  • Foreign doctors develop personalized treatment plans based on genetic analysis of the tumor.
  • Some foreign hospitals offer patients the opportunity to participate in research on new treatments.
  • Patients receive full information about their condition, treatment plan, and possible risks, which enables them to make informed decisions.
  • Multidisciplinary teams, including nutritionists, psychotherapists, and social workers, provide comprehensive support to patients and their families.
What diagnostics do I need to undergo for stomach cancer?

gastric cancer diagnosisIn case of suspected stomach cancer, the following diagnostic methods are usually used in foreign clinics:

  • Gastric endoscopy. Visual examination of the inner surface of the organ (mucosa) with an endoscope. This procedure is often complemented by a biopsy for histological analysis of suspicious tissues.
  • Ultrasonography of the abdominal cavity. A study that allows you to assess the condition of the stomach and neighboring organs, as well as the presence of metastases.
  • CT (computed tomography). It is used to assess the stage of the disease and the spread of the tumor.
  • PET-CT (positron emission computed tomography). It helps to detect metastases that are not visible on other types of scans.
  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). It is used less often, but can be useful for detailed imaging of tissues.
  • Blood test for tumor markers. Determining the level of specific proteins that may indicate the presence of cancer.
  • Laparoscopy. Minimally invasive surgical examination used to assess the spread of cancer in the abdominal cavity.
  • Genetic testing. The study of DNA mutations that may be associated with gastric cancer is especially relevant for patients with a family history.
  • Chromoendoscopy. The use of special dyes during endoscopy for better visualization of abnormal areas.
  • X-ray with contrast. Sometimes it is used to assess the patency of the gastrointestinal tract and detect obstructions.

Biopsy analysis allows morphologists to determine the type of gastric cancer. This analysis is mostly performed by fine needle aspiration biopsy. As a result, oncologists can select an effective chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy for a patient even at advanced stages of the disease.

These diagnostic methods provide a comprehensive approach to detecting and investigating the extent of the cancer process. This is the key to effective treatment of gastric cancer abroad.

Surgical treatment of stomach cancer abroad

Surgery is the main method of fighting gastric cancer. Leading clinics around the world offer various methods of tumor removal. The choice of surgical technique will depend on the stage of cancer, its prevalence, the patient’s general health and other factors.

removal of a tumor in the stomachThe main methods of surgical treatment of gastric cancer abroad include:

  • Gastrectomy – complete or partial removal of the stomach. It is often used for common forms of cancer.
  • Resection – removal of only the affected part of the stomach with preservation of normal tissue. This operation is performed if the cancer is at an early stage and occupies a small part of the organ.
  • Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive method used in the early stages of the disease. It is preferred because of the lower risk of complications and quick recovery.
  • Robotic surgery – uses robotic systems for more accurate and less traumatic tumor removal. It is especially effective in difficult cases.

Surgical treatment of stomach cancer abroad, according to patient reviews, takes place in modern operating rooms. Doctors select the surgery technique individually, explaining all the advantages of a particular type of intervention.

What complements gastric cancer treatment abroad during surgery?

gastric cancer treatment in foreign clinicsForeign oncologists are ready to revise the tactics at all stages of treatment, depending on the situation. This makes it possible to improve the patient’s condition and make surgery the most effective in the treatment of stomach cancer abroad.

The patient may be offered the following procedures:

  • Chemoradiation before surgery. In some cases, it is used to reduce the size of the tumor.
  • Removal of lymph nodes. During the operation, the nearest lymph nodes are often removed to prevent metastatic process.
  • Combined surgery. In the later stages of gastric cancer, it may be necessary to simultaneously remove some of the other organs to which the tumor has spread.
  • Palliative surgery. This surgery can be aimed at relieving symptoms such as esophageal obstruction. It is used in rare cases.

Additional treatment of stomach cancer abroad at a price may vary depending on the country and clinic. Leave a request on the Experts Medical website to get a consultation with a foreign oncologist and find out the cost of treatment.

Non-surgical treatment of stomach cancer abroad

In modern oncology, a variety of methods are used to treat stomach cancer abroad that go beyond standard chemotherapy. Here are some of them:

  • HIPEC therapy for gastric cancerHIPEC therapy (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy). This method is a combination of surgery and direct injection of chemotherapeutic drugs into the abdominal cavity. It is used in oncology to destroy microscopic tumor cells after surgery.
  • Immune therapy. It uses the mechanisms of the immune system to fight cancer cells. New drugs such as PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors show encouraging results for patients of all ages.
  • Targeted therapy. This method targets specific molecules that promote the growth and proliferation of cancer cells. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies are used.
  • Nanotechnology. Some foreign clinics are already using nanoparticles to deliver chemotherapy drugs directly to the tumor.
