Four years ago I started having a severe, persistent cough. My doctor found a suspicious lump in my neck area. After examinations, it turned out that I had a benign tumor on a nerve that could be causing pain, sensory disturbances and muscle weakness. At first I was relieved that the tumor was not malignant, but when I learned that it was located near the nerves responsible for my vocal cords and swallowing, I was very scared. Several hospitals suggested that I have the tumor removed along with the nerve, which would mean losing the ability to speak and swallow. It would ruin my job as a chef and fatherhood for my six children. I couldn't accept it and searched for a doctor who would offer another solution.
Two years passed, the tumor continued to grow, reached 5 cm and started pressing on my trachea. My condition worsened, I hardly slept and could barely function. One day I came across an article about a doctor from Ihilov Hospital who had successfully performed a similar operation. I immediately made an appointment.
When I met Professor Nadal Muhana and Dr. Yuval Shapiro, they told me, 'We can remove the tumor and preserve the function of the nerve.' This was the first suggestion of this kind that I had heard in 4 years. I came out of the consultation with a huge sense of relief, as if a stone had fallen from my soul. After more tests, I was scheduled for surgery.
The surgery lasted five hours. It was complicated, but successful. The doctors managed to remove the tumor without damaging important nerve fibers. After the operation, I recovered quickly, there was no hoarseness or swallowing problems. I feel like a miracle has happened to me. I am back to life, family and work. Thank you so much to these doctors!
