Professor Ugur Selek is one of Turkey’s leading radiation oncologists. He graduated from the English-language program of the Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and obtained ECFMG Certification in the United States.
From 2001 to 2003, Professor Selek worked as a Clinical Fellow at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) — one of the world’s leading cancer centers — where he specialized in IMRT and stereotactic radiotherapy. In 2003, he received the “First Annual M.D. Anderson Radiation Oncology Fellow Research Award.”
Since 2009, he has been heading the Department of Radiation Oncology at VKV American Hospital in Istanbul, which operates as the MD Anderson Radiation Oncology Outreach Center — meaning direct collaboration with the U.S. center on protocols and quality standards. In parallel, he serves as Professor at Koç University School of Medicine, where he was the founding chair of the department.
Professor Selek is a Fellow of ASTRO (since 2019), President of the Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology (TROD), co-editor of six Springer books on radiation oncology, and the author of hundreds of scientific publications.
Radiation oncology (radiation therapy).
Areas of specialization:

VKV American Hospital is a private multidisciplinary hospital in Istanbul, part of the Vehbi Koç Foundation. The hospital is JCI-accredited and operates according to American quality standards.
For oncology patients, the MD Anderson Radiation Treatment Center is of central importance. It opened in January 2010 as a result of a partnership with the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) — the leader of the “America’s Best Hospitals” ranking among cancer hospitals. The partnership means standardization of treatment practices, protocols, and quality control under the “One Practice Model” framework.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is equipped with new-generation linear accelerators for IMRT (intensity-modulated radiation therapy), stereotactic radiosurgery and SBRT, 4D-CT simulation, and CT-planned brachytherapy.
Under the leadership of Professor Selek, the center treats tumors of the lung, brain, head and neck, gastrointestinal tract, and other solid tumors. Treatment is delivered in a multidisciplinary format — together with medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, and neurosurgeons.
An International Patient Department is available for foreign patients.
