Beta Klinik provides state-of-the-art comprehensive diagnostics and treatment of epilepsy for patients of all ages, including an innovative procedure – laser ablation under MRI control. This is the removal of a focus of epilepsy in the brain using the American Visualase laser technology at Medtronic installations. Visualization of pathological tissue is carried out using MRI 3 Tesla.
The procedure is carried out by a well-known specialist in epilepsy, Prof. Christian Elger, and a neurosurgeon, Prof. Thomas Gasser. Through a millimeter hole in the skull, they insert a laser catheter into the brain under MRI control. The epileptoid focus is destroyed without damaging healthy tissues. Most patients can be discharged the next day after the intervention.

At Beta Clinic, the well-being of the patient is important to everyone. The clinic staff is friendly and attentive. I was treated by Dr. Heck – a very professional doctor. I was well informed about all manipulations and forecasts. I needed an artificial hip joint, but thanks to the doctors and their detailed explanation, I was not nervous or even afraid. Diagnosis: operation on a torn tendon
I am evaluating the surgery and inpatient stay at the Beta Clinic in June 2023. The surgery was very difficult due to the poor structure of the torn supraspinatus tendon of the left shoulder. In addition, the tendon had already moved by more than 5 cm. The quality of the tendon made the operation difficult. Therefore, another doctor considered the operation impossible. Dr. Klingenberg was able to fix the tendons, although precautions were taken. Because of the extremely poor condition of the tendon, the operation was performed with the arm dangling and a balloon placed over the tendon for added protection. The operation is one side, but there must also be appropriate care. In this case, it is impossible to carry out normal rehabilitation. To protect the operated tendon, the doctor discussed with physical therapists the idea of using so-called Kaatsu training to counteract muscle atrophy, without direct traction on the tendon. The collaboration between Dr. Klingenberg and the physical therapist was exemplary.

On May 15, 2023, after 7 months of suffering, Prof. Gasser gave me a diagnosis: L5, S1 disc herniation. The surgery was done on time, everything went well, and the follow-up and post-operative care was very good. The staff were always there for me, took time to answer questions and took good care of me, even at night. All examinations were carried out on time and it was easy to make an appointment for physical therapy. Only the food was so-so, I would have liked fruits and fresh vegetables. Prof. Christian Elger, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), is a Board Certified Neurologist. In addition to his specialization in epileptology, he deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all neurological diseases. Senior Professor of Neuropediatrics/Pediatric Epileptology at the Charité in Berlin.
For over 25 years he has been director of the Bonn University Epileptology Clinic, which is the only independent university epileptology clinic in Europe.
After his retirement, he founded, together with Prof. Thomas Gasser and Dr. Axel Jung (both doctors of neurosurgery) – Epileptology Center of Beta Clinic.
